Richardson Rocks Nevada
If the American people can't watch - and truly listen - to this man and not come away thinking that Bill Richardson is one of the most qualified, best suited candidates for the office of President of the United States that this country has ever seen, then the folks must be wearing earplugs and be looking through the wrong lenses. Governor Richardson's performance in the Nevada Forum was the first of many such events that will continually serve to illuminate this truth to the voters.
For while the other candidates can merely talk about their ideas, Bill Richardson has actually accompanied his ideas with action - and that action has achieved extraordinary results.
The other candidates are talkers - Richardson is a proven leader of achievement, wisdom, and vision.
...and, oh yeah, he's Batman.*

From the New Hampshire Union Leader...
Richardson's party: Is anyone left to back him?
NEW MEXICO Gov. Bill Richardson stopped by last week during his two-day swing through New Hampshire. Among the Democrats vying for their party's Presidential nomination, he stood out as someone not very interested in playing to the far left, or to anyone else's expectations.
With Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards tacking hard left, and Sen. Hillary Clinton trying to sound moderate while still holding on to the liberal base, Richardson was quick to note that he is a different kind of Democrat.
For one, he's all for tax cuts. "I'd have middle-class tax cuts. I'd cut capital gains," he said, adding that he might have to repeal tax cuts that went to wealthier Americans to pay for more middle-class cuts, but it would be a last resort. He believes that low taxes stimulate business investment and job creation.
"The Democratic Party, our first solution is to tax, but I'm not of that school," he said.
He's also pro-Second Amendment (he was endorsed by the National Rifle Association in last year's race for governor), for a stronger, larger military, against gay marriage, and in favor of letting states experiment on policy rather than forcing them to accept Washington's dictates.
On Iraq, he supports withdrawal, provided the United States can bring together the warring ethnic and religious groups and create some sort of political agreement first.
Richardson is not a candidate polished and shined by some D.C.-area spin machine. He's a Western governor who talks convincingly like a Washington outsider despite his years in the capital. Plus, he has some interesting ideas. The question is whether in the current political climate any Democrats will be willing to hear them.

Rolling Stone: Respecting Richardson
Respecting Richardson
I don’t understand why Gov. Bill Richardson is the Rodney Dangerfield of the 2008 Democratic crop. The man gets no respect.
For all the ink (virtual and otherwise) spilled over the first viable female and African American candidates, Richardson — to my knowledge the first mainstream Latino candidate to run for the White House — gets no boost from the novelty factor. (For the geneologically curious: The anglo surname Richardson comes from his grandfather, the one non-Hispanic of the four.)
The lack of attention is just sad, not only because of Richardson’s unique appeal to the nation’s fastest growing ethnic bloc, but because the man actually has the kind of experience you need to be president. Indeed, apart from Joe Biden, he’s the only candidate in the current Democratic field with the requisite foreign policy experience. There. I said it.
I used to have my doubts about the man’s charisma, but after his speech from the DNC meetings — in which he comes off as authentic and funny — I don’t remember why:
When we were first invited to speak here today, we were all told that each of us would have only seven minutes…
Seven minutes … to tell you how we’d create better jobs, expand health care, save the environment, improve our schools, balance the budget, fight terrorism, get out of Iraq, and bring peace to the Middle East.
I don’t need seven minutes. I can do that in four words: “Elect a Democratic president.”

Richardson: "Power without diplomacy is blind"
Richardson: 'Power without diplomacy is blind'
WASHINGTON (CNN)
Touting his own extensive diplomatic experience, Democratic presidential candidate New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson sharply criticized the Bush administration's approach to international policy Thursday and called for a new strategy.
"President Bush doesn't seem to understand that success in foreign policy requires both a strong military and smart diplomacy," Richardson said during an address at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. "Because while diplomacy without power is weak, power without diplomacy is blind."
Describing a world confronted with the threat of nuclear and other forms of terrorism, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations stressed that America must work to rebuild good relationships with other countries and not shy away from talking to unfriendly regimes.
"I have stood toe-to-toe with some of the world's toughest customers, including Saddam, Castro, the North Koreans and, most recently, the Sudanese leader Bashir," Richardson said. "I have gotten all these tough guys to do what I wanted them to do because I put my disdain for them aside, and talked to them."
"You need to know your enemy if you want him to cooperate," he added.
